Mounting
Not all pieces need mounting, Posters for instance are an example of something we do not feel needs a mount (mounting) thus can just go straight in to the frame. In the case we do suggest Fillets to keep the image off the glass. We offer a range of different mounting options (all of which are reversible) for your works as show below;
Window Mounts
A window mount is a piece of acid free mount board with a cutout bevelled edged window, through which art is viewed through. The art is mounted to another piece of acid free board which is hinged to the window mount using acid free tape.
Flat Float
A “Flat Float” is when a print is flat on top of an acid free board of choice usually with a border which changes depending on size of the print and the desired aesthetics of a the customers choice. Giving the look as if the piece is “floating”
Float Mount
A “Float Mount” is essentially the same as a “Flat Float” however, a “Window Mount” will be place on top of the acid free board usually with a gap of around 5mm (depending on aesthetics) between the edge of the image and the bevelled edge of the window mount.
Raised Float
Similar to a “Flat Float”, A “Raised Float” also gives the illusion that the piece is “floating” however, the is a piece of 5mm acid free Foam in between the mountboard and the print where the term “raised” comes from. Artwork with torn edges tend to look best when they are floated in any of the ways above.
Please note that we stock all Arqadia, Centrado and Bainbridge mountboard’s which are all acid free and essential to preserving your valued work. Even if you do not wish to have your framing done with us, we strongly suggest you make sure where you do have your art framed uses acid free mountboard. Otherwise this can lead to discolouration and damage to the artwork which ultimately devalue the piece or even ruin it.
